It’s a bit puzzling to me why more people don’t engage in daily rituals that affirm their personal purpose, aspirations, or positive wishes for the benefit of themselves and others. It is such a concrete and do-able form of action in a world in which positive actions sometimes seem hard to come by. I find it sad that many of us may feel that such actions “just don’t matter.”
Daily rituals of intention and aspiration can enrich our lives by creating an energetic continuity, while one-time ceremonies can powerfully vitalize or integrate a transitional moment in our lives. Both rituals and ceremonies may use symbols, words, movement, chants/sound, and nature elements to express meaning in concrete and subtle forms.
As someone who does three or four such self-deigned rituals each day, I find them very helpful. Over time, even if I may do them from rote on some days, these daily actions of body, speech and mind weave an energetic thread of commitment, connection and remembrance for myself about what is important in life.
Of course this is not new. We humans have been doing rituals and ceremonies for thousands of years. But not so much lately it seems….so if you’d like to explore how a daily ritual or one-time ceremony might enrich your life, please get in touch at shana.l.klinger@gmail.com.
